Upcoming IU Bloomington Law Day is largest in the nation

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Law Day at Indiana University Bloomington is set to attract at least 117 law schools from across the country seeking to recruit students. The event, taking place Monday, Oct. 21, at the Indiana Memorial Union, will be free and open to the public.
The IU Bloomington Law Day has been the nation’s largest law school fair for nine consecutive years. Organized by the IU Health Professions and Prelaw Center, Law Day is sponsored by the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors and is part of its 2013 Caravan series.
“Students at IU Bloomington are incredibly fortunate to be able to take advantage of the fact that more of the nation’s finest law schools come to Bloomington than to any other university in the country,” said Mac Francis, prelaw advisor and director of the Health Professions and Prelaw Center. “Other college students simply do not have this invaluable opportunity to see what so many schools have to offer, to learn about schools they had not considered before, and to make that all-important personal connection to the school’s representative.”
In 2012, Law Day attracted 567 attendees. The Health Professions and Prelaw Center estimates there are about 4,000 students from more than 53 majors at IU Bloomington who are interested in attending law school. The event will be informative for students at every stage of the application process, from considering a law degree to actively applying for programs.
Representatives from the Indiana Conference for Legal Education Opportunity will also be available at Law Day. Conference programs include stipends and preparatory institutes that assist Indiana first-generation, minority or low-income college graduates who are interested in attending law school and pursuing a legal career in Indiana.
Law Day attendees will have the opportunity to speak with admission representatives at the law school fair event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Before attending the fair, participants are encouraged to learn what gives applications a competitive edge at a panel discussion from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Whittenberger Auditorium. The panel will include IU Maurer School of Law Assistant Dean for Admissions Frank Motley, Loyola University School of Law Chicago Dean Pamela Bloomquist and the New York University Law School Director of Admissions Michael Ramos. The Health Professions and Prelaw Center, a program of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, provides advising and other services for students who want to pursue careers in law, medicine and other health professions. Students considering careers in these professions must excel academically and plan carefully.
