FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Comedian and independent filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait will visit Indiana University's Bloomington campus this month, where he'll screen his new horror film at IU Cinema on Halloween night.

Known as much for his roles in three of the "Police Academy" films as for his distinctive voice, Goldthwait's comedic style has transcended from stage to screen. Dark, cynical and often violent, his films display a distinct cinematic voice featuring tightly woven stories and characters struggling with repressed emotions. His films have screened at numerous film festivals over the years, including Toronto International and Sundance.

"Bobcat Goldthwait is a true independent filmmaker, writing and directing the films that he wants to make," IU Cinema director Jon Vickers said. "He has had a successful life in entertainment, but in talking with him it is clear that making his own films is what he seems to love most."

Goldthwait's new film, "Willow Creek," is shot in found-footage style and tells the story of a young, idealistic couple who venture into Bigfoot territory in Willow Creek, Calif. The film includes real interviews with local residents, many of whom believe in the mysterious beast. "Willow Creek" screens at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at IU Cinema, and Goldthwait is scheduled to be present.

He'll also introduce his 2012 comedy, "God Bless America," set to screen at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the cinema. Divorced and recently fired from his job, Frank teams up with a high school girl to take out his frustration on the most cruel, stupid and intolerant people he can imagine: reality stars and celebrities. At the end of the day, though, what Frank is really asking is for people to be kind.

Tickets for both films are $3 and can be obtained at the IU Auditorium Box Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; one hour before any screening at the cinema; or by phone at 812-855-1103 for a $10 service fee per order.

Goldthwait will also deliver a Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Lecture at 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the cinema, made possible by the support of the Ove W Jorgensen Foundation. The lecture is free and open to the public, and no tickets are required.

His visit to Bloomington is co-sponsored by The Comedy Attic, 123 S. Walnut St., where he'll perform four stand-up shows on Nov. 1 and 2. Tickets are available online.
