BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- "Let's Stay Together" is the theme for the Indiana University Neal-Marshall Alumni Club's Reunion XXI, scheduled for Oct. 18 to 20 in Bloomington.

The reunion will feature a TGIF "Evening Groove" at Coaches Bar & Grill on Friday, Oct. 18. Other events on Saturday, Oct. 19 include an alumni/student empowerment brunch and networking mentoring sessions and a Motown Soul Symposium with Charles Sykes, executive director of the African American Arts Institute. Sykes teaches a course devoted to the study of Motown. The afternoon will also include an alumni sock hop.

Comedian and satirist W. Kamau Bell, star of FX’s "Totally Biased," will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St. The public is invited to this free performance. After the concert, there will be a reception and more entertainment beginning at 8 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center, 275 N. Jordan Ave. That event will feature Word of Mouth Productions, a professional theater company, and the Downstroke Band playing favorite old-school R&B tunes.

The reunion’s student-engagement brunch at 11 a.m. on Saturday will feature alumna Lori Wilson, news anchor for Indianapolis WISH-TV, and alumna Nancy Streets Lyons, the first black Miss IU. Club business will be conducted Sunday at a national meeting and election, according to national Neal-Marshall Alumni Club President Vernon Williams.

"We expect a cross section of IU graduates from every decade," Williams said. "And we are excited about the unprecedented level of student-alumni engagement planned, which better connects NMAC to its purpose and mission."
