FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Organizers anticipate that 120 law schools will take part in the largest university law fair in the nation, which will take place Oct. 3 at the Indiana Memorial Union on the Indiana University Bloomington campus.

Hosted by the IU Health Professions and Prelaw Center, Law Day is sponsored by the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors and is part of its 2016 Caravan series. This IU Bloomington event has held the record for the largest university law fair for 12 years.

"IU Bloomington has a proud tradition as an excellent prelaw and law institution," said Mac Francis, prelaw advisor and director of the Health Professions and Prelaw Center. "Law Day is a remarkable opportunity for prospective law students and law schools alike. Students can ask questions and gain an edge on the application process by meeting with law school representatives directly and attending sessions designed to help them succeed."

The Law Day fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Prior to the fair, students will have an opportunity to see a mock admission committee meeting for an inside look at the selection process. Representatives from three law schools will openly discuss files of actual applicants -- as they would in a real admissions meeting -- offering unique insights into the decisions they make. The meeting will take place from 9 to 10:45 a.m. in the Frangipani Room.

After the fair, Carter Budwell, a recent law school graduate, will share advice on how students can put together a winning law school application, followed by a question-and-answer session. This event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Dogwood Room. Pizza will be served.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center estimates that approximately 4,000 students from more than 53 majors at IU Bloomington are interested in attending law school. The event will be informative for students at every stage of the application process, from those considering a law degree to those currently applying for admission to programs.

All events at Law Day are free and open to the public.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center, a program of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, provides advising and other services for students who want to pursue careers in law and in medicine and other health professions. Students considering careers in these professions must excel academically and plan carefully. The center works closely with IU students throughout their undergraduate years, and with IU alumni, to help them become thoughtful, well-prepared, competitive applicants to professional programs.
