IU Bloomington Health Programs Fair introduces students to health care career paths

  • Feb. 25, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- IU students will have a chance to learn about a wide variety of career opportunities in health care at the 14th annual Indiana University Bloomington Health Programs Fair.

The fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 29 in the Indiana Memorial Union Alumni Hall and Frangipani Room. Students will meet with recruiters from medical schools and health professions programs and learn about the admissions process.

The fair will feature representatives from more than 100 schools, programs and organizations who will provide information about educational and career opportunities. Medical school representatives will answer fair attendees’ questions and discuss what the schools are seeking in order to prepare prospective applicants.

"I enjoy coming to Indiana University each year because their Health Programs Fair is without doubt the best-run and most well-attended event in my recruitment season," said Clint Fitzpatrick, director of graduate admissions at The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University.

"I love meeting with students from Indiana University because they are well-prepared and have proven to be very successful in our graduate programs,” said Fitzpatrick, who has been attending the event for eight years.

The fair is organized each year by the IU Bloomington Health Professions and Prelaw Center.

“Attending the fair and speaking with the representatives of the health professions schools can definitely enhance a student’s success in admission, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn about so many possible career paths in health care,” said Rachel Tolen, assistant director of the center.

Information will be available at the fair on health care careers in direct patient care, laboratory work, administration, information technology and other areas. About 700 students usually attend the Health Programs Fair, and large crowds are expected again this year.

Representatives from IU academic departments will attend the fair to discuss majors and courses that help prepare students for medicine and other health fields. Students will also have the opportunity to speak with representatives of health-related student organizations and volunteer agencies from the Bloomington area.

The fair is free and open to the public. A list of professions and of schools and programs that will be represented at the fair is available online. For questions or more information, contact the Health Professions and Prelaw Center at 812-855-1873 or hpplc@indiana.edu.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center, a unit of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, provides advising and other services for students who want to pursue careers in law, medicine and other health professions. The center works closely with IU students throughout their undergraduate years, and with IU alumni, to help them become thoughtful, well-prepared, competitive applicants to professional programs.
