IU Bloomington ranked among best public colleges

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Bloomington is again among the top 25 public colleges and universities in the U.S., according to rankings released by Forbes.

IU Bloomington is No. 18 on the magazine’s “Best Public Colleges 2014” list. It moved up from No. 22 in 2013, the biggest jump for any public institution. The U.S. Military, Naval and Air Force academies top the list, followed by the University of California-Berkeley and the University of Virginia.

Forbes partnered with the Center for College Affordability and Productivity in Washington, D.C., to rank 650 colleges and universities. Their methodology focuses on outputs and return on investment, including student satisfaction, post-graduate career and financial success, student academic accomplishments and affordability.

Other Big Ten schools among the top 25 public colleges are the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Maryland, the University of Minnesota and Purdue University.

IU Bloomington ranks No. 107 on the overall list, which is dominated by Ivy League schools and small liberal-arts colleges. View the complete list and methodology online.
