FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Student Foundation has organized a special tribute to show support for injured Little 500 rider Lauren Gill during the race this weekend.

Along with featuring Gill’s IU Nursing teammates in a special parade lap before the start of the women’s Little 500 race on Friday, April 25, the IU Student Foundation will make 1,500 custom Lauren Gill bandages available to all riders and fans wanting to show their support.

The stickers will be distributed during the women’s and men’s races on Friday and Saturday respectively.

The idea for the bandages came from IU Nursing teammates Rachael Dickerson, Chelsie Hafler and Kelsey Gill, Lauren’s sister. The team wanted riders, fans and friends to be able to visibly show their support for Lauren, who was injured April 17 during a practice race at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Lauren is in fair condition at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

To help the family with the associated medical costs, her teammates have set up a Fundly site to gather donations. The Lauren Gill Recovery Fund has already raised more than $7,000. Several IU Nursing students will be running a support table during the women’s race and will be handing out Lauren Gill stickers and providing information about fundraisers for the Gill family.
