FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A new book of photographs from IU Press showcases the Bloomington campus of Indiana University, which is widely known and acknowledged as one of the most picturesque college campuses in the United States.

"Indiana University: Portraits of the Bloomington Campus," available this month, celebrates the beloved campus with its Sample Gates and limestone buildings that welcome students to a nearly 2,000-acre campus in the rolling hills of southern Indiana, surrounded by natural beauty.

Named by Travel & Leisure magazine as one of America’s most beautiful college campuses, IU Bloomington includes one of the largest student union buildings in the world, representing the core of the original campus and the architectural planning that went into the early years. As the campus grew, the expansion continued in the same tradition. Dunn Woods, the Arboretum and areas along Jordan River provide lovely scenery, while music, arts and sports facilities receive worldwide attention.

The book includes 91 photographs of campus landmarks, including Sample Gates, the Herman B Wells sculpture, the Rose Well House, the Indiana Memorial Union, Beck Chapel, the Jordan Hall Greenhouse and Showalter Fountain. They are accompanied by 29 photographs of athletic venues and athletes. Quotes from alumni add personality and recollections to this pictorial collection.

"'Indiana University: Portraits of the Bloomington Campus' will make a great coffee-table piece for any lover of good photography, illustrious landscapes and rich history," James Layne writes in Indianapolis Monthly. "More than anything, it's an excellent keepsake for alumni and the current student body."

Nine freelance and Indiana University photographers contributed to the collection, published by Indiana University Press with the support and research assistance from staff members of Indiana University Communications, IU Athletics and IU Libraries.
