FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the first time in history, the IU Alumni Association and IU Athletics are announcing in advance the next six years of IU Homecoming dates, as well as the addition of a major alumni recognition ceremony to the lineup of this perennial celebration.

"Every year, Indiana University and the Bloomington community hosts Homecoming to welcome thousands of alumni, parents and fans home to Bloomington," said J T. Forbes, CEO of the IU Alumni Association. "Setting these dates for the next six years gives the Bloomington campus and community plenty of lead time to roll out the 'Crimson Carpet' and make this a remarkable experience, boosting IU spirit, pride and tradition while helping to boost the local economy."

Make plans to celebrate Homecoming in Bloomington on these weekends:

  • 2014: Oct. 18, IU vs. Michigan State (Note: This is a change from the November Homecoming date announced earlier.)
  • 2015: Oct. 17, IU vs. Rutgers
  • 2016: Oct. 15, IU vs. Nebraska
  • 2017: Oct. 14, IU vs. Michigan
  • 2018: Oct. 13, IU vs. Iowa
  • 2019: Oct. 12, IU vs. Rutgers

"Ever since my days as a student here, Homecoming has been one of my favorite times of year," said Fred Glass, IU vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics. "I appreciate very much the efforts of J T. Forbes and the Alumni Association to set these dates early so that our alumni, the university, IU Athletics and local businesses can all participate in the festivities."

Beginning in 2014, the Indiana University Alumni Association will host the Distinguished Alumni Service Award Ceremony on the Friday evening before Homecoming. The Distinguished Alumni Service Award is the highest honor bestowed to alumni who exemplify IU's best aspirations and values.

Other Homecoming traditions will continue in 2014, with student-led activities throughout Homecoming Week, a family-friendly late Friday afternoon parade down Kirkwood Avenue, as well as concerts, arts events and speakers hosted by Bloomington campus and community organizations. The week culminates with Homecoming Game Day festivities as the IU Hoosiers football team takes on the Michigan State Spartans at Indiana Memorial Stadium.

"We are grateful for the support we are getting from Visit Bloomington and local merchants and hotels," Forbes said. "The tourism grant we received from Visit Bloomington will help us promote the event and make this a 'four-way win' -- for IU alumni, the Bloomington economy, Indiana University and the Hoosier football program."

The IU Alumni Association is a global alumni organization that brings more than 580,000 IU graduates together to support one another and Indiana University throughout their lives. The IUAA activates IU's powerful network through live events, webinars, scholarship programs and seriously fun traditions.
