For more than 40 years, Assembly Hall has been the site of men's and women's basketball games, commencement ceremonies, concerts by the world's most popular musical acts and speeches by presidents and world leaders.
- Assembly Hall opened in 1971 at a cost of $26.6 million to coincide with the sesquicentennial celebration of Indiana University.
- More than 12 million fans have watched IU play basketball in Assembly Hall.
- Assembly Hall has been home to three national men’s basketball championships and 13 conference champions.
- Assembly Hall was home to the 1975-76 IU men’s basketball team, which remains the last undefeated men’s team in college basketball and was recognized as the best team in the history of the NCAA tournament in April 2013.
- Indiana men's basketball has a 504-98 record (.837) in 42 seasons at Assembly Hall.
- Men's basketball has posted home winning streaks of 50 and 35 games at Assembly Hall.
- 300,000 people have received their undergraduate or graduate degrees at commencement ceremonies hosted in Assembly Hall.

- The 1984 Olympic Trials and six Olympic exhibition games took place at Assembly Hall. Notable players at the trials include basketball legends Michael Jordan, Steve Alford, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin and John Stockton.
- Assembly Hall has served as the only home for Indiana women's basketball since it became a varsity sport in the early 1970s.
- Assembly Hall was home for IU women's basketball’s 1973 Final Four team, 1972 and 1973 Elite 8 teams and the 1983 and 2002 Big Ten Championship teams.
- Assembly Hall was host to the IHSAA Boys State Basketball Championships in 1972, 1973 and 1974.
- The Indiana Pacers ABA championship team played regular-season and home playoff games at Assembly Hall in 1972.
- No indoor basketball venue in the United States has more seating on the sides of the court than Assembly Hall, adding to its unique character and design.
- Assembly Hall has been a host of NCAA Tournament games on four separate occasions.
- Assembly Hall is also home to the largest student section in the country.
