FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Director of Public Safety Jerry Minger and IU Bloomington Provost Lauren Robel have announced the appointment of Laury Flint as campus police chief at the Indiana University Police Department Bloomington. She began serving in the position Nov. 1.

Flint, 53, began her career as a student in the IU Police Academy in 1980. She has subsequently served as a patrol officer, uniform sergeant, uniform lieutenant, deputy chief of police and, more recently, interim police chief, all on the Bloomington campus.

As police chief at IU Bloomington, she will provide leadership, direction and oversight for all law enforcement functions on campus.

"We are extremely fortunate to have a person like Laury ready to step into a position so critical to the safety of the IUB campus," Minger said. "Her record of exemplary service, leadership and initiative matched with superior organizational skills makes her an excellent choice to oversee campus police services."

"Along with Laury’s experience, knowledge and expertise in public safety and management, she has the mindset necessary to act and react in a university environment which presents unique challenges," said Mark Bruhn, IU associate vice president for public safety and institutional assurance.

Flint said she is looking forward to being the police chief at IU Bloomington and working to find innovative solutions for today's public safety problems at one of the nation's largest institutions of higher education.

"I like the atmosphere at Indiana University," she said. "Over the years I have been fortunate to develop good relationships with students, faculty and staff, which will help me manage the IU Police with their needs and concerns in mind."

Flint graduated from the Indiana University Police Academy in 1981 and later from IU Bloomington, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She is also a 2007 graduate of the FBI National Academy. Flint lives in the Bloomington area with her husband, Bill, and daughter, Jackie.
