Personnel from new USS Indiana nuclear sub to visit display of USS Indiana battleship at IU stadium

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The past and future of Indiana's naval heritage will converge Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Indiana University when U.S. Navy Cmdr. Jesse J. Zimbauer and Master Chief Petty Officer Lafrederick O. Herring of the new USS Indiana nuclear submarine visit the university's display of the World War II battleship USS Indiana at Memorial Stadium.

Navy personnel will speak about the progress of the submarine, its christening ceremony scheduled for April 2017 and its expected commissioning in 2018.

WHAT: Reception to meet officers from the new USS Indiana nuclear submarine

WHEN: 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tues., Jan. 10

WHERE: Varsity Club Suite, west side of IU Memorial Stadium, 1001 E. 17th St., Bloomington. Take the stadium press box elevator to the sixth floor. Free parking is available in the stadium's west lot near the USS Indiana display.

In addition to honoring Indiana's namesake ships, IU has several educational and research partnerships with the Navy to include STEM education initiatives, educational partnership agreements and a cybersecurity-intensive cooperative research and development agreement with NSWC Crane.
