IU McKinney School of Law symposium to focus on states? challenges as populations age

INDIANAPOLIS -- An upcoming symposium at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law will focus on the challenges state governments will face as the country’s elderly population continues its rapid growth.

“State Governments Face the Realities of Aging Populations,” this year’s Program on Law and State Government, will take place from 8:40 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Wynne Courtroom of Inlow Hall, 530 W. New York St.

The rapidly growing elderly population in the United States is presenting state governments with economic challenges  while magnifying the growing social issues facing states, such as the exploitation of vulnerable seniors.

Topics for discussion during the Program on Law and State Government symposium include ways to minimize Medicare fraud, preventing physical and financial exploitation in an aging population, and legal tools for balancing autonomy and protection.

Stetson University School of Law Professor Rebecca Morgan will present the keynote lunch address, “What the Future of Aging Means to All of Us.” Other speakers include McKinney Professors David Orentlicher and Cynthia Baker, and program fellows Tarah M.C. Baldwin and Sean Deneault.

Attorney registration with CLE credit is $110; non-attorney registration is $65. Registration after Sept. 6 is $135.
