Sheryl Allen to direct student programming at IU School of Medicine

INDIANAPOLIS -- Sheryl E. Allen, M.D., M.S., has been named the new associate dean for the Office of Medical Student Affairs at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She began her new duties July 15.

An associate professor of clinical emergency medicine and of pediatrics, Dr. Allen will serve as the senior administrative leader for medical student affairs and will oversee comprehensive services and programming to support the development and academic success of medical students at each of the IU School of Medicine’s nine campuses.

Dr. Allen joined the IU faculty in 2008. In 2010, she was named assistant dean for diversity affairs in the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. In that position, Dr. Allen assisted the school with recruitment and retention of residents from underrepresented backgrounds as junior faculty members. She also worked with medical students as a faculty advisor for the Student National Medical Association.

Dr. Allen holds a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Northwestern University, a doctorate from the IU School of Medicine and a master’s degree in epidemiology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
